About Local Councils
|
Local Councils serve three purposes:
1. Local Councils review applications for funding from the Arkansas Children's Trust Fund. For a program to be funded, it must first be reviewed by a Certified Local Council in the county where services are to occur. NOTE: Local Councils that wish to be certified by the Arkansas Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Board should submit the appropriate certification forms in January of each year.
2. Local Councils are most knowledgeable about the needs and resources in their area. The Board relies on Local Councils to identify gaps in services and propose solutions to community needs at the community level before funding is made available.
3. Local Councils promote the concept of prevention vs. treatment. Most of our resources are directed to treating child abuse and neglect. While these services are important, it is equally important to educate others about the importance of prevention in reducing child maltreatment. Local Councils are in the best position to effectively develop and share this information with their community.
For more information about the role, formation or operation of a Local Council, refer to the Local Council Handbook.
